DEI Strategy Development with Employee Insights

A nonprofit healthcare organization tapped SIVO Insights to assist in the development of a DEI strategy for their company.
The challenge

In Need of a New DEI Strategy and Roll-Out Plan

The CHRO and the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at a nonprofit healthcare system tapped SIVO Insights to assist in the development of a DEI strategy. The organization had inconsistent DEI knowledge and skills across the organization, lack of common language and definition for DEI, organizational silos impacting buy-in, and varied leadership commitment and accountability. They were experiencing many starts and stops without an enterprise-wide DEI strategy and created confusion among employees across the organization.

The Approach

A Multi-Step Data-Gathering and Action-Planning Approach

The organizational intelligence approach included multiple steps with Employees and Leadership to gather insights and build a plan that Leaders felt they could execute. SIVO worked with the client team to provide:

  • Strategic Planning process with employees at all levels across the organization.
  • Strategic Planning with DEI Planning Committee including:
    • Education
    • CEO & ELT participation
    • Employee Stories
    • External benchmarking
    • Small group break-outs
    • Plan development
  • Implementation Roadmap & Communication Plan

The Impact

Roll-out Plan for Employees and Training for Leaders

The impact for the company was a well-received DEI roll-out plan that included a roadmap that included employee communication and engagement with events and tracking as well as, company leadership training:

  • Plan approved by ELT and Year 1 of  the 3-year plan is completed
    • Community engagement
    • Executive Resource Group kicked-off
    • DEI Dashboard / Scorecard established
  • All leaders have participated in DEI strategy training
    • Unconscious Bias
    • D&I Assessment Tool
